In Nakashibetsu, Hokkaido, Hiroki Minematsu raises over 370 dairy cows.
But he’s far from your typical farmer. As the average age of dairy workers in the region rises, Hiroki is not just inheriting the industry
— he’s redefining its future.
A graduate of Sophia University, one of Japan’s top private institutions, Hiroki fuses academic intelligence with raw rural grit. He’s teamed up with his high school rugby teammate, Takuya Ashizaki — now a standout in the Rausu fishing industry — to launch a bold initiative reconnecting land and sea in Japan’s northeastern frontier.
One of their shared goals: to naturally mitigate the methane odor that lingers from the town’s 35,000 cows — by restoring ecological balance to
the region. Hiroki is also pushing the boundaries of genetic innovation.
He recently bred a dairy cow with a TPI (Total Performance Index) exceeding 3000— an
extraordinary achievement in the global dairy industry. A few months earlier, he reached 2800. His work in precision breeding may signal the arrival of a new generation of “super cows” in
Nakashibetsu. a number almost unheard of in the dairy industry. A few months earlier, he hit 2800. With his precision

峰松 裕樹 – NHDファーム
北海道・中標津町で、峰松裕樹さんは370頭以上の乳牛を育てています。
でも、彼は“普通の酪農家”ではありません。
地域の酪農従事者の平均年齢が上がる中で、彼は単に業界を継承するだけでなく、その未来を自らの手で再定義しようとしています。
日本の名門私立大学の一つ、上智大学を卒業した峰松さんは、アカデミックな知性と農村のたくましさを融合させた次世代型のファーマー。
彼は、高校時代のラグビー仲間であり、現在は羅臼の漁業界で注目される存在となった芦崎拓也さんと手を組み、日本の北東端で「陸と海を再びつなぐ」という大胆な取り組みを始めました。
二人の共通の目標のひとつは、町に3万5千頭もいる牛によって発生するメタン臭を、自然の循環を取り戻すことで解消しようというもの。
また峰松さんは、遺伝学の革新にも挑戦しています。
最近では、TPI（総合能力指数）で3000を超える乳牛の育種に成功しました。これは世界の酪農界でも極めて稀な快挙です。
数ヶ月前には2800という記録も達成しており、その精密な育種とデータに基づくアプローチにより、中標津は近い将来、“スーパーカウ”の新たな聖地になるかもしれません。
でも、これは単なる酪農の話ではありません。
これは、旧来の精神的・制度的な「壁」を乗り越え、データと科学、そして揺るぎない信念で打ち壊していく挑戦です。
地域に根ざした伝統や営みを受け止めながらも、
